Guide

Hinged and tilt-and-turn PVC windows

Hinged PVC windows open on hinges, usually inwards. A tilt-and-turn window also lets you tilt the top of the sash inwards for ventilation. These openings are widely used in Alicante renovations.

Why hinged windows insulate well

The sash presses against perimeter seals when closed. This compression seal is generally tighter than the brushes used by conventional sliding windows, helping keep out air, dust and noise and improving thermal insulation.

Understanding the opening types

  • Hinged: opens fully inwards and is easy to clean on both sides.
  • Tilt-and-turn: opens fully or tilts at the top for ventilation.
  • Tilt-and-slide: tilts for ventilation, then slides parallel to the frame, saving swing space.
  • Double-sash hinged: suited to wider living-room and bedroom openings, with or without a central mullion.

Choosing VEKA Softline or Cortizo A

VEKA Softline 70, 76 and 82 have rounded lines and a wide colour range. The Cortizo A 70 and A 84 range offers different profile and glazing options; the A 84 Concealed Sash has just 90 mm of visible profile. A 76 mm system with low-emissivity double glazing is a useful starting point for many Alicante homes.

Hardware and security

Perimeter hardware locks the sash at several points. Suitable security hardware, mushroom locking points and laminated glass can achieve resistance classes such as RC2 in documented Softline 76 or 82 configurations. Security should be specified for the complete window assembly.

Looking after a hinged PVC window

Clean profiles with water and neutral soap, clear drainage channels and lubricate the hardware locking points annually. If the sash starts rubbing, an adjustment can often restore smooth operation.

Tilt-and-turn windows in Alicante

A tilt-and-turn window opens fully for cleaning and ventilation, or tilts inward to admit fresh air without a fully open sash. We supply this opening across our hinged range, from VEKA Softline 70 to Cortizo A 84, and in balcony-door configurations.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hinged and tilt-and-turn windows?

Tilt-and-turn combines a full hinged opening with a tilted ventilation position. It provides greater flexibility without needing the sash fully open.

Can hinged windows have triple glazing?

Yes. VEKA Softline 76 and 82 and Cortizo A 84 permit suitable triple-glazing configurations. We check the glazing thickness and complete specification for the chosen system.

Will hinged windows interfere with curtains or furniture?

An inward-opening sash needs clearance. We check this during measurement and can recommend sliding or tilt-and-slide if space is restricted.

What is a hinged window?

A window whose sashes pivot on hinges, inwards or outwards. Tilt-and-turn windows add a tilted ventilation position.

Can PVC windows be fitted with child-safety features?

Yes. Options include lockable handles, opening restrictors and laminated safety glass in lower glazed areas.
