Frequently asked questions
Can you replace only the roller shutter box?
We assess this during the visit. Monoblock boxes are normally fitted with the window as one assembly. Some existing installations allow a box-only replacement or improvements to the built-in box.
Can these roller shutter systems use a motor?
Yes. We specify the appropriate motor and controls for the shutter. Vekavariant 2.0 includes provisions for a motor; manual strap or crank operation can also be considered where compatible.
Which box offers an integrated insect screen?
Vekavariant 2.0 offers an insect screen integrated within the box. We confirm the dimensions and assembly for your opening.
How is the required shutter box size calculated?
It depends on the shutter height and slat type: a taller shutter needs more space for the rolled curtain. We calculate this from the measured opening and the chosen assembly.
Can you replace the shutter curtain as well as its box?
Yes. A shutter in good condition may be retained, or replaced with compatible PVC or aluminium slats. Insulated slat options can also be assessed.
Can an existing built-in shutter box be improved without replacing the window?
Some installations allow this, depending on the opening, available access and existing window. We inspect the assembly before proposing a replacement box or access-cover solution.
Is box replacement a suitable time to add a shutter motor?
Yes. It provides an opportunity to specify a compatible motor and controls and check the space, access and power supply needed for the installation.

An old roller shutter boxcan be a weak point even after fitting efficient windows. Aninsulated PVC shutter box helps reduce heat transfer and noise through the opening.
Monoblock or built-in box?
- Monoblock systems, such as Vekavariant 2.0, Eurostar and Cortizo Isolation, are manufactured and fitted with the window as one assembly. The chosen system determines the sealing, access and dimensions.
- Cortizo Cassonetto is an access-cover solution for a roller shutter recessed into the wall. We assess the existing masonry box and its insulation before specifying it.
Compare the reference insulation values
An uninsulated old box can transfer considerably more heat than a modern window. The systems in our range quote Usb values from 0.66–0.97 W/m²Kand acoustic insulation of34–47 dB, depending on the model and tested assembly. These manufacturer reference figures are not a guarantee for every installation.

Motorisation and insect screens
The systems can be specified for motorised roller shutters, subject to the shutter size and motor. Vekavariant 2.0 has provisions for the motor and an optional integrated retractable insect screen. We check the complete assembly rather than assuming every box has the same options.
Address the opening’s weak point
An old timber or masonry shutter box may let in draughts, dust, noise and heat. When replacing windows, it is useful to assess this area and choose an insulated box or a suitable improvement to the existing enclosure.
Options include Vekavariant 2.0 and Eurostar with VEKA windows, Cortizo Isolation with compatible Cortizo systems, and Cassonetto for a built-in masonry box.
